Sustainable actions by the organization
FUGA Penyagolosa Trails works to reduce the environmental impact of the event and foster a responsible relationship with the land. Through diverse sustainable initiatives, the organization promotes natural environment protection, waste reduction, responsible consumption, and active engagement of participants, volunteers, and local communities.
Ecodorsal

The Ecodorsal recognizes the environmental commitment of runners. Participants who deposit waste generated during the race at the finish line will enter a draw for 5 bibs for the following edition. More than 250 runners took part in Ecodorsal in 2026.

All aid stations, start, and finish areas are equipped with selective sorting systems that separate waste at the source, ensuring proper management and recycling.
Responsible water use

All greywater generated from restrooms and showers at the finish line area is collected and transported to wastewater treatment plants, preventing any discharge into the natural environment. In addition, the organization commits to replenishing the water volumes used as determined by competent authorities.
Elimination of single-use containers

To minimize waste generation, disposable cups are not provided at aid stations. Race regulations make it mandatory for all runners to carry a hydration system with a minimum capacity of 1 liter, thereby promoting the use of reusable containers throughout the race.
Sustainable mobility

We limit vehicle access to the finish line surroundings and provide bus and shuttle services for runners and companions, reducing traffic and emissions associated with the event.

The course is marked using reusable ribbons and ties. Once the race concludes, a team of volunteers sweeps the entire route, removing all signage and inspecting the trail to ensure the environment remains in the exact condition it was before the event.
Penyagolosa a l’Escola

An educational project bringing sport, nature, and the heritage of Penyagolosa to hundreds of provincial schoolchildren through activities developed with educational centers. In 2026, more than 500 schoolchildren participated.

A scientific research project conducted in partnership with Universitat Jaume I and the Provincial Hospital to examine the effects of mountain ultramarathons on runners' health. Since its inception, more than 20 research articles have been published.

The organization participates in this research project, spearheaded with Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME-CSIC), to assess the impact of sporting events on natural areas and develop tools for increasingly sustainable management.

For every runner who crosses the finish line, we donate €1 to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). Additionally, each edition we reserve charity bibs to support non-profit organizations, exceeding €6,000 donated in 2026 and generating a positive impact beyond the competition.

Commitment to the territory

We prioritize contracting local suppliers, collaborate closely with host municipalities along the course, and foster economic and social development in the region that makes the race possible.
Circular economy

We give a second life to materials used during the event through our collaboration with La Lona de Valencia, which upcycles event advertising banners and signs into useful new products, encouraging reuse and preventing waste.
