( Races )

The Sports Regulations compile the rules and criteria governing the races of FUGA Penyagolosa Trails and serve as a reference document for athletes, facilitating the understanding of participation conditions, the progression of the events, and the essential aspects of each race.

( Block 1: Event presentation )

( Block 2: Pre-registration, lottery and registration procedure )

Pre-registration and lottery procedure( article 5 )

To ensure safety, protect the natural environment and maintain organisational quality, the number of participants is limited. Applications are managed exclusively at www.penyagolosatrails.com

Pre-registration period: From 7:00 pm on 19 November 2026 until 7:00 pm on 8 December 2026.

Race exclusivity: Only one pre-registration per person is permitted. If opting for the MiM®, it will not be possible to pre-register or take part in the lottery for the CSP®, and vice versa.

Lottery condition: If the number of pre-registrations equals or exceeds the available places by 20%, a lottery draw will be held to allocate 1,500 places in the MiM® and 600 places in the CSP®. Should this 20% threshold not be reached, all pre-registrations will be automatically accepted, and the platform will switch to a direct registration system until all places are filled.

Lottery procedure: Once exempt pre-registrations (detailed in Article 6) have been removed from the draw, consecutive numbers will be assigned according to pre-registration order. This list will be published prior to the lottery. During the lottery draw, one base number will be drawn at random for each race modality. Places will be awarded to that base number and the 1,499 subsequent numbers in the MiM®, or the 599 subsequent numbers in the CSP®. If the end of the list is reached during sequential allocation, it will continue from number 1 until the quota is filled.

Publication of results: The lottery draw will take place on 11 December 2026. Once concluded, slot allocation will be available for consultation on the official website, where registration confirmation will be processed. Runners will also be notified via email; therefore, in order to ensure receipt of informative communications, it is advisable to check junk mail or spam folders.

Direct allocation of places( article 6 )

Pre-registrations meeting any of the following requirements will be granted a place without entering the lottery:

  • Loyalty: Athletes who have completed at least 50% of previous editions:
    • For the MiM®: 13 accumulated editions completed between MiM® and CSP®.
    • For the CSP®: 7 editions completed in the CSP®.
  • Performance time: Certified finish times in either of the 2 previous editions: 2025 or 2026:
    • In MiM®: finish time under 07h30' for men and 09h00' for women.
    • In CSP®: finish time under 15h30' for men and 19h30' for women.
  • Podium: Athletes placed in the top three overall in any previous edition.
  • Ranking: Athletes holding an ITRA or UTMB index above 775 points for men and 625 for women. Note: There is a maximum quota of places for this category.
  • Ecodorsal: Winners of the 2026 Ecodorsal lottery initiative.

Following the lottery, the organisation will reserve a quota of places for collaborating clubs, official sponsors and to ensure international representation.

Final registration, fees and included services( article 7 )

Applicants successful in the lottery and those entitled to direct allocation [Article 6] will have until 23 December 2026 to complete and pay for their final registration. Places not processed by that date will pass to the provisional waiting list, contacting the next numbers from the lottery.

In the case of the MiM®, priority will be given to applicants who were unsuccessful in the lotteries of the two previous consecutive editions and had no option for a bib in either race. These new applicants will have until 31 December 2026 to complete their registration.

Registration fees:

To exercise this right, the athlete must complete normal pre-registration for the chosen edition within that three-year period, notify the organisation by email to bypass the lottery, and pay the registration fee applicable for that year.

Charity bibs( article 9 )

The organisation donates 20 MiM® bibs free of charge to charitable associations to help fund and raise awareness of their causes. Obtaining one of these bibs guarantees direct entry, even if general registrations are sold out.

Management and fundraising are handled exclusively by the associations. Interested individuals must make their donation directly to:

The associations will forward the donation details to the organisation, and the organisation will contact the donor to process their entry into the race.

As this is a direct donation to charitable entities, these bibs do not allow financial refunds or transfers of ownership.

Image rights( article 10 )

The organising entity reserves exclusive rights over the image of the race, as well as the audiovisual and journalistic exploitation of the competition.

All participants expressly waive their image rights during the race and any right of claim against the organisation for the commercial or promotional use of said image.

The organisation may authorise media outlets to use images via accreditation. Any communication regarding the event, use of images or media/advertising project must have the express consent of the organisation and respect registered trademarks.

Data protection and disclosure to third parties( article 11 )

In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (GDPR) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 of 5 December on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD), all personal data provided by participants, as well as images and audiovisual material obtained during the event, will be processed by the organising entities of the FUGA Penyagolosa Trails® for the purpose of managing registration and participation in the race, compiling and publishing results, ensuring race safety, and promoting, distributing and broadcasting the event across any media outlet or social network.

Race bibs and drop bags( article 13 )

Rules on race bibs and identification material:

The race bib is strictly personal and non-transferable. Giving a bib, timing chip or wristband to a third party entails immediate disqualification and a ban from participating in future editions of the race. Participants must wear the bib visibly on the front of their body throughout the entire race. Along with the race bib, the organisation will provide each participant with an identification wristband, which must be worn to access race services, and an additional timing chip to attach to their pack.

Bib collection:

Collection will take place exclusively at the ExpoTrail venue on Friday 23 April 2027, from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. Under no circumstances will bibs be handed out at the start area on race day. To collect the bib, it is essential to present a valid ID card (DNI), passport or equivalent identity document.

Collection by a third party:

It is possible to authorise a third party to collect your race bib. This procedure must be completed in advance via the Manage Registration section on the official website. Important: If a third party collects the bib, the identification wristband will not be handed over at that time. The registered runner must report in person on race day 60 minutes prior to the start at the volunteer control desks located in the start area. There, they must present their physical ID document to verify their identity so that the organisation can fit the mandatory wristband. Without completing this step, they will not be allowed to start.

Drop bag management:

The organisation will provide each participant with an official 20-litre kitbag (two in CSP®).

Drop-off: Bags must be handed in on Friday 23 April 2027 at the ExpoTrail, from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. Bags must be completely closed and properly identified using the tags provided with the race bib. No drop bags will be accepted at the start areas, and no items protruding from the bag will be transported.

Transfer from Culla (CSP® only): The transfer of the second drop bag from the Culla checkpoint to the finish line will take place from 3:00 pm onwards.

Liability waiver: As the contents are not inspected upon drop-off, the organisation accepts no responsibility under any circumstances for the loss, theft, misplacement or damage of the bag or any items inside it. Runners are advised not to place valuables, electronic devices, documents, keys or money inside drop bags.

Unclaimed bags at the finish and shipping: Bags not collected at the finish area will be transferred to the headquarters of the Club Marató i Mitja at Calle Sanahuja 55 bajo, 12004 – Castelló de la Plana. They will be stored for a maximum period of 15 calendar days following the race and may be collected in person on working days from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Under no circumstances may they be collected on the Sunday after the race.

Home delivery: Runners wishing to have their drop bag sent by post must request this within the same 15-day period by contacting logistica@penyagolosatrails.com. Postage and handling costs will be borne solely and exclusively by the participant. This service applies only to the drop bag; home delivery of the runner’s goody bag is not possible.

Donation: Once the 15-calendar-day period has elapsed, any unclaimed items will be donated to an NGO, and the participant will forfeit any right to claim.

Starts and course marking( article 14 )

Start location: Athletics track at Universitat Jaume I. It is advisable to arrive 60 minutes early; access to the start corral will close 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

CSP® Start: 12:00 am on 24 April 2027.

MiM® Start: 6:00 am on 24 April 2027.

Course marking: Red tape and reusable cable ties with reflective elements for night-time visibility will be used. It is the athlete’s responsibility to follow the waymarking; if a runner loses sight of the markers, they must turn back until they find them again. Cutting corners is strictly prohibited.

Public roads: Sections running along roads or through built-up areas will not be closed to vehicular traffic. Runners must obey traffic regulations and cross at marked pedestrian crossings.

Race conduct: outside assistance and cut-off times( article 15 )

The race is governed by the principle of semi-self-sufficiency. Personal outside assistance is only permitted within the designated areas of authorised aid stations, which are for the exclusive use of runners.

Finish line and return transport( article 16 )

The finish line is located at the Sanctuary of Sant Joan de Penyagolosa, in the Penyagolosa Natural Park:

  • Private vehicle access will be closed 8 kilometres before the finish, providing a car park with a free shuttle bus service.
  • Due to the lack of mobile phone coverage, a satellite Wi-Fi network with managed access will be offered in the designated marquee.
  • No catering services are available; spectators must make their own provisions.
  • To protect local wildlife, night-time lighting is limited to safety elements, and the use of PA systems or acoustic cheering devices is restricted or prohibited during the night.
  • Return transport: From 3:00 pm onwards, a coach service exclusively for runners will operate back to the start area, running approximately every 60 minutes.
Course modification, neutralisation or cancellation( article 17 )

The organisation reserves the right to modify routes, adjust schedules, or suspend the race due to force majeure or adverse weather conditions, with no fee refund.

If definitive cancellation is announced more than 7 days in advance, a partial refund will be processed after deducting fixed costs.

If the race is stopped whilst underway, classifications will be determined according to the times recorded at the last checkpoint passed.

( Block 4: Safety, health and emergencies )

Safety and medical assistance( article 18 )

During the race, stationary and mobile medical teams will be deployed in coordination with race management and emergency services. Every athlete has an inescapable duty to assist any participant in danger or requiring help.

The assessment of the organisation’s medical team shall prevail at all times; their decision is final and binding, with full authority to withdraw a runner’s bib, order evacuation or require hospital transfer if a serious risk to the runner’s health is detected.

Should a runner refuse to comply with a medical order, they will be immediately disqualified and the organisation will be released from any liability regarding their person.

Health prevention and monitoring( article 19 )

The organisation will implement preventive health measures. Upon completing registration, the athlete agrees to:

  • Report any allergy, medical condition or use of treatments subject to a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). This medical information must be written on the back of the race bib.
  • Submit to urine, blood or capillary sampling if required by the Race Medical Board (with the organisation bearing the costs arising from such tests).
  • Attend any medical appointments scheduled to assess their physical fitness prior to the start, should the organisation require it.
Withdrawals and emergency protocol( article 20 )

Withdrawal procedure: Except in the event of a serious injury preventing movement, withdrawal must be formally completed at an aid station by notifying organisation staff, who will invalidate the race bib. The participant must keep the cancelled bib in order to use the return transport service. If a runner decides to withdraw after passing a checkpoint and before reaching the next one, they must turn back to the last checkpoint passed or notify the "sweep" team.

Transport logistics: In the early hours of Saturday morning (CSP®), buses will depart for the start area from Les Useres (6:30 am) and Atzeneta (7:00 am). During the day, retired runners will be transferred towards the finish area to facilitate drop bag recovery (via connections from Les Useres, Atzeneta and Vistabella; and a shuttle bus from Torrosselles and Culla to Atzeneta).

Withdrawals at points without evacuation: If a participant decides to withdraw at an aid station that is not an official evacuation point (and there is no serious medical issue), it will be the runner’s sole responsibility to make their own way to the nearest official withdrawal point.

Emergency protocol: Failure to render assistance is considered a very serious offence. In the event of an immobilising medical emergency, runners must call the emergency telephone number printed on the bib or 112. To speed up rescue operations, the bib number, a description of the medical incident and the last kilometre marker passed must be provided as a location reference, and the runner must remain in place without moving until assistance arrives.

Accident insurance( article 21 )

All officially registered participants are covered by an accident insurance policy that guarantees, as a minimum, the mandatory sports insurance cover set out in Spanish Royal Decree 849/1993.

For this insurance cover to be valid, any medical or hospital care must be previously prescribed and referred by the organisation’s official medical team.

Medical care at health centres, private clinics or hospital transfers arranged by the runner on their own initiative, without the knowledge, assessment and express authorisation of the race medical services, will not be covered by the policy, and any resulting financial costs will be borne entirely and exclusively by the participant.

Sporting integrity and prohibition of result manipulation( article 23 )

Prohibition of pacts: Any agreement, pact or collusion between participants intended to predetermine, alter or condition the finishing order, times achieved or final result of the competition is strictly prohibited. Agreeing to cross the finish line together (jointly or in a coordinated manner) in order to share or alter the allocation of cash prizes or trophies is expressly considered an infringement.

Disciplinary regime: Detection of such conduct by the organisation entails:

  • Automatic disqualification from the race and annulment of times for all athletes involved.
  • Forfeiture of prizes: Immediate revocation of the right to receive any cash prize, trophy or distinction, with the obligation to return them in full if already awarded.
  • Participation ban: Disqualification from registering for future editions of the race.

Federation and legal reporting: The organisation will report the facts to the relevant federation and authority for the opening of disciplinary proceedings for a serious breach of fair play and sporting integrity, reserving the right to take legal action for damages caused to the image of the race or its sponsors.

Any participant may be required to undergo anti-doping testing. Refusal to take the test will carry the same penalty as a positive result.

( Block 6: Environmental commitment and sustainability policy )

Sustainability and Environmental Policy( annex )

1. Environmental commitment and certification:

The FUGA Penyagolosa Trails® runs largely through the Penyagolosa Natural Park, an extremely fragile high-mountain ecosystem. In 2017, the race obtained the international UNE-EN ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. Registration for the race implies full acceptance of this policy. All participants, as well as their supporters and assistance crews, are obliged to maintain eco-responsible behaviour, with the aim of generating zero environmental impact on the territory.

2. Mandatory rules in the natural environment:

To ensure the protection of the environment, the following strictly mandatory guidelines are established during the course of the race:

  • Soil protection and erosion control: Runners must stay solely and exclusively on the route marked by the organisation. Leaving the trail, cutting corners or running cross-country is strictly prohibited. This rule requires particular rigour along the Camí dels Pelegrins section (between Les Useres and the Sanctuary of Sant Joan).
  • Waste management: Dropping any kind of litter, food scraps or wrappers in the natural environment is prohibited. Waste generated by participants must be carried to the next aid station and disposed of selectively only within the marked perimeter designated for waste collection.
  • Reusable cup: With the aim of eliminating single-use plastics, the organisation will not provide cups at aid stations. The reusable cup is part of the Mandatory Gear that athletes must carry from start to finish in order to drink liquids.
  • Protection of flora and fauna: Participants must avoid making loud noises or shouting that may disturb local wildlife. Uprooting vegetation, damaging the environment or lighting any kind of fire is strictly prohibited.

3. Disciplinary regime:

Breach of any of the rules detailed in this annex will be considered an offence against the environment and against the philosophy of the FUGA Penyagolosa Trails®. Any infringement detected by stewards, volunteers or organisation staff will result in the immediate application of the disciplinary measures set out in Article 24 (Penalties and Protests) of these rules, which may entail the direct and irrevocable disqualification of the participant and a ban from future editions.
