Penyagolosa Trails HG 2018 generates enormous expectation. On November 1, at 7:00 pm, the pre-registration period was opened to participate in the next edition. Only a week later, Penyagolosa Trails HG has excedeed 4,000 pre-registered runners. The registration period eill end on November 21, at 7:00 p.m. The lottery will be on November 24.

The record of pre-registrations to Penyagolosa Trails, with nearly reinforces the tourist impact of this long-distance competition in the 40 villages of the area of ​​influence in the interior of Castellón.

Penyagolosa Trails HG arouses great interest. Some of the reasons are that it is a event that has a long history, this year the MiM celebrates 20 years;  a event wiith a growing internationalization, for the second year, the CSP will be in the Ultra-Trail World Tour circuit and, for first time, it will be a qualifying racefor the Western States 2019; and in addition, in the next edition, Penyagolosa Trails HG will host 2018 Trail World Championships.

The mechanics of the draw will be the same as in previous years: 1500 seats to MiM and 600 to CSP. The draw will take place on November 24, in the face of a notary, media and in a public place.

The  limitation of 2,100 places for careers is due to environmental issues of respect and care to the Natural Park of Penyagolosa. Precisely the care of the environment is something intrinsic to the approach of this competition, especially careful with the natural heritage of the área.

In the first pre-registration day, more tan 2000 runners from 27 countries have formalized correctly the pre-registration to Penyagolosa Trails HG 2018. This fact reinforces the internationalization of Penyagolosa Trails. Besides, in 2018, Trail World Championships will celebrate in this place. Pre-registration date finishes in November 21, at 7 pm.

Penyagolosa Trails HG, a global appointment in 2018

Penyagolosa Trails HG is preparing to live its most international edition next year. To the Trail World Championship will bring the best trailrunners around the world. This event will be a great promotional opportunity for Penyagolosa Trails HG.

In addition, last Tuesday the Ultra-Trail World Tour calendar was presented. Spain has two races: Transgrancanaria HG and Penyagolosa Trails HG. For the second consecutive year, Penyagolosa Trails HG will be present in this world circuit, with the CSP. This race will also be a qualifying race for the legendary Western States Endurance Run 2019.

Penyagolosa Trails HG has informed about important news for the event. The draw of MiM and CSP participation will be on 24th of November. The pre-registration period will be from 1st to 21st of November., with opining and closing at 7 p.m.

Penyagolosa Trails HG has announced the official event poster. In the poster highligths the historical fact of hosting Trail World Championship 2018. Also, the red colour, characteristic of the marks of the Full Moon trail, in reference to the twenty years of the MiM. All, overlaid on representative images of the effort of this sport and the support of the Castellon’s public.

The successive steps taken by the participants of the MiM and CSP have written the history of Penyagolosa Trails. Men and women who with their effort and ability to overcome are the legends of the 21st century. Hence comes the slogan for this year, “Our history, your legend”, in the most international edition of the event.

Penyagolosa Trails HG continues its internationalization with new good news. The CSP will be one of the scoring races to participate in the emblematic Western States Endurance Race 2019. This is one of the mythical 100 mile competitions, which has a long history of more than 40 years and has a participation limitation of 369 runners.

The director of Penyagolosa Trails HG, Tico Cervera, says that “after a hard work, Penyagolosa Trail’s will  qualifying race for the mythical ‘Western’, one of the best known ultra-trails in the world. This fact contributes to Penyagolosa Trails HG internationalization”.

In the next edition, Penyagolosa Trails HG will have two classic races, the MiM and the CSP, and will host Trail World Championships 2018. Besides, the MiM and CSP will be in the Spain Ultra Cup calendar and CSP, in the Ultra Trail World Tour calendar and it will be qualifying race for the Western States Endurance Race 2019. The Western States Endurance Race

The “Western” was born four decades ago. Its origins go back to a 100-mile horse race in California. In 1974, the rider Gordon Ainsleigh decided starting the competition on foot, because, in the previous edition, he abandoned by the limp of his horse. Ainsleigh finished in less than 24 hours. In the following years it continued doing it on foot and in 1977 the test acquired own status. Year after year their participation increased until in the 80 they had to limit the participation. Authorities limited sport events in the Natural Park. For this reason, only can participate 369 runner, just the number of participants of the year before the regulation. In these four decades have participated some of the most famous runners in the world. The record of the event has the last winner of the Penyagolosa Trails CSP, Timothy Olson, with 14 hours and 46 minutes.

Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc expectatives always are so big. But, with François D’Haene, Killian Jornet, Zach Miller, Pau Capell, Tim Tollefson, Xavier Thevenard, Gidimias Grinius, Jordi Gamito or Jim Walmsley are more increasing. And ultra trail did not disappoint: was an UTMB for the history.

170 km, 10.000 dip metres and bad weather. This was the hard stage. However, americans runners, Zach Miller and Jim Walmsley, began so fast, higth rhythm, before D’Haene and Journet.

Jim Walmsley was leading race in all of check point, like Contamines, Col de la Seigne (Italy, km 60, 2516 m), Courmayeur (km 77), Grand Col Ferret  (Switzerland, km 99, 2537) and la Fouly (km 111). In this point, the race changed, and american runner was so tired and D’Haene and Jornet overtook him.

Two first was side by side until Bertone. In this hard part, D’Haene distanced. When la Fouly finished, the diference between two first runners was 8 minutes and started and epic persecution. In Champex Lac, diference was 19 minutes and the race seemed determined. But Jornet reduced five minutes between Trient (km 142) and Vallorcine (km 153).

Finally, D’Haene won in 19 hours and 1 minute, and Kilian Jornet was second with 19:16 hours. Rest of Top 10 was Tim Tollelson, Thevenard, Jim Walmsley, Pau Capell, Dylan Bowman, Gidimias Grinius, Zach Miller and Jordi Gamito.

Females podium was Nuria Picas, Andrea Huser and Christelle Bard.

UTMB 2017 was an epic duel between François D’Haene and Kilian Jornet.

Penyagolosa Trails HG will be promoted next week in Ultra-Trail Mont Blanc fair, the most important running meeting in the world. It will participate with Provincial Tourism Department stand. In this, you can see all the Penyagolosa Trail’s information and the most important tourist places of Castellon. The UTMB Hall is a great promotional showcase, with 50,000 visitors and 7,500 runners expected from around the world. It’s a great opportunity to see the best runners in the world and create synergies with sponsors, contributors and other tests of the Ultra Trail World Tour and WAA Spain Ultra Cup circuits.

As happened last year when CSP entered the world circuit, Penyagolosa Trails HG will be in the Ultra Trail World Tour Village area, at the 110 stand. The stand schedule will be on Tuesday, August 29 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 19 h and Friday from 10 to 14 h.

Real Athletics Federation has confirmed the Spanish Trail Championships will be in Transgrancanaria HG next 24th on february.  This trail will be 64 Km. And 3200 metres positive grades and it will decide the members of spanish team to compete in Trail World Championships in PenyagolosaTrails HG.

Undoubtedly, these two events will be a great promotion for both tests, which will internationalize even more, being two of the races essential next year. The best riders on the national and international scene will participate in these tests, which is a major boost for both as a trail running destination.

In this way, you can already write down two essential appointments in the calendar of the trail 2018: Transgrancanaria HG, February 24, and PenyagolosaTrails HG, from 10 to 13 May.

WAA Spain Ultra Cup has hold four races on calendar. Competition arrive at the summer break with de maximum equality.

After de victories of Miguel Heras and Melanie Rousset in Sierra Nevada, the ranking has been drawn. José E. Martínez is the new leader with 1175 points, Agustín Luján is second with 905 points and Timothy Olson is third with 780 points. In females, Gemma Arenas, winner in PenyagolosaTrailsHG, is leader with 900 points. Second is Melanie Rousset with 850 points and Mercedes Pila is third with 750 points. In M category, Albert Pujol and Mónica Vives are leaders.

In september, competition are returning with Riaño Trail Run. The latest races will be Ultra Trail Guara Somontano Sport HG and Haria Extreme Lanzarote.

Third race of the season in WAA Spain Ultra Cup. It was in Navacerrada with the Gran Trail de Peñalara where the pair formed by Gemma Arenas and Agustín Luján climbed to the top of the podium.

 

Couple in sports and in life, their triumph is translated into the leadership of WAA Spain Ultra Cup XL.

 

Agustín Luján worked hard to win and reached the finish line in 13:37:31. With the victory added enough points to replace Timothy Olson as the leader of the circuit. Behind, second place for José Manuel Rodríguez and third for Álvaro Velázquez. In female category, triumph for Gemma Arenas, who came to Peñalara as winner of the CSP. Arenas was the best from start to finish and managed to win at 16:19:27, with an advantage of one hour regarding Belén Rodríguez and Luciana Moretti (second and third classified).
