François D’Haene VS Kilian Jornet: epic duel in UTMB

Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc expectatives always are so big. But, with François D’Haene, Killian Jornet, Zach Miller, Pau Capell, Tim Tollefson, Xavier Thevenard, Gidimias Grinius, Jordi Gamito or Jim Walmsley are more increasing. And ultra trail did not disappoint: was an UTMB for the history.

170 km, 10.000 dip metres and bad weather. This was the hard stage. However, americans runners, Zach Miller and Jim Walmsley, began so fast, higth rhythm, before D’Haene and Journet.

Jim Walmsley was leading race in all of check point, like Contamines, Col de la Seigne (Italy, km 60, 2516 m), Courmayeur (km 77), Grand Col Ferret  (Switzerland, km 99, 2537) and la Fouly (km 111). In this point, the race changed, and american runner was so tired and D’Haene and Jornet overtook him.

Two first was side by side until Bertone. In this hard part, D’Haene distanced. When la Fouly finished, the diference between two first runners was 8 minutes and started and epic persecution. In Champex Lac, diference was 19 minutes and the race seemed determined. But Jornet reduced five minutes between Trient (km 142) and Vallorcine (km 153).

Finally, D’Haene won in 19 hours and 1 minute, and Kilian Jornet was second with 19:16 hours. Rest of Top 10 was Tim Tollelson, Thevenard, Jim Walmsley, Pau Capell, Dylan Bowman, Gidimias Grinius, Zach Miller and Jordi Gamito.

Females podium was Nuria Picas, Andrea Huser and Christelle Bard.

UTMB 2017 was an epic duel between François D’Haene and Kilian Jornet.

Penyagolosa Trails HG will be promoted in Chamonix next week

Penyagolosa Trails HG will be promoted next week in Ultra-Trail Mont Blanc fair, the most important running meeting in the world. It will participate with Provincial Tourism Department stand. In this, you can see all the Penyagolosa Trail’s information and the most important tourist places of Castellon. The UTMB Hall is a great promotional showcase, with 50,000 visitors and 7,500 runners expected from around the world. It’s a great opportunity to see the best runners in the world and create synergies with sponsors, contributors and other tests of the Ultra Trail World Tour and WAA Spain Ultra Cup circuits.

As happened last year when CSP entered the world circuit, Penyagolosa Trails HG will be in the Ultra Trail World Tour Village area, at the 110 stand. The stand schedule will be on Tuesday, August 29 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 19 h and Friday from 10 to 14 h.

Transgrancarnaria HG will decide spanish team to compete in PenyagolosaTrails HG

Real Athletics Federation has confirmed the Spanish Trail Championships will be in Transgrancanaria HG next 24th on february.  This trail will be 64 Km. And 3200 metres positive grades and it will decide the members of spanish team to compete in Trail World Championships in PenyagolosaTrails HG.

Undoubtedly, these two events will be a great promotion for both tests, which will internationalize even more, being two of the races essential next year. The best riders on the national and international scene will participate in these tests, which is a major boost for both as a trail running destination.

In this way, you can already write down two essential appointments in the calendar of the trail 2018: Transgrancanaria HG, February 24, and PenyagolosaTrails HG, from 10 to 13 May.

Spain Ultra Cup comes in half with máximum equality

WAA Spain Ultra Cup has hold four races on calendar. Competition arrive at the summer break with de maximum equality.

After de victories of Miguel Heras and Melanie Rousset in Sierra Nevada, the ranking has been drawn. José E. Martínez is the new leader with 1175 points, Agustín Luján is second with 905 points and Timothy Olson is third with 780 points. In females, Gemma Arenas, winner in PenyagolosaTrailsHG, is leader with 900 points. Second is Melanie Rousset with 850 points and Mercedes Pila is third with 750 points. In M category, Albert Pujol and Mónica Vives are leaders.

In september, competition are returning with Riaño Trail Run. The latest races will be Ultra Trail Guara Somontano Sport HG and Haria Extreme Lanzarote.

Gemma Arenas and Agustín Luján WAA Spain Ultra Cup leaders with their their victory in Peñalara

Third race of the season in WAA Spain Ultra Cup. It was in Navacerrada with the Gran Trail de Peñalara where the pair formed by Gemma Arenas and Agustín Luján climbed to the top of the podium.

 

Couple in sports and in life, their triumph is translated into the leadership of WAA Spain Ultra Cup XL.

 

Agustín Luján worked hard to win and reached the finish line in 13:37:31. With the victory added enough points to replace Timothy Olson as the leader of the circuit. Behind, second place for José Manuel Rodríguez and third for Álvaro Velázquez. In female category, triumph for Gemma Arenas, who came to Peñalara as winner of the CSP. Arenas was the best from start to finish and managed to win at 16:19:27, with an advantage of one hour regarding Belén Rodríguez and Luciana Moretti (second and third classified).

Penyagolosa Trails HG will host the World Championship from 10 to 13 May 2018

Penyagolosa Trails HG 2017 is part of our history. Its celebration has been the most international edition of the event and the premiere in the international circuit Ultra-Trail World Tour.

Now the Penyagolosa Trails HG organization looks ahead to the near future. And announces the date of the next edition. It will be from 10 to 13 May, days in which Castellon will host the 2018 World Championship.

Timothy Olson and Gemma Arenas win at the CSP premiere on Ultra-Trail World Tour

Sixth edition of the CSP (115 km), which started at midnight from the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón. Great atmosphere at the exit and throughout the circuit, both in the evening and during the day.The night was cold, but the dawn allowed to reach very favorable temperatures for the race that was released as part of the prestigious world circuit Ultra-Trail World Tour.

The American Timothy Olson, one of the main favorites, was the first in the finish line. A very hard victory at 12:23:58, with an important advantage over Yeray Durán, second at 12:45:34. Third, Remi Queral (12:52:51).

In the female category, Gemma Arenas was the leader from start to finish. Winner of the MiM in 2016, this has been her first participation in the CSP and has obtained the best result. Clear win with a time of 15:01:19. Second place for Mercedes Pila (15:03:42), who won last year, and third for Leire Martínez (15:53:43).

Second race of the Spain Ultra Cup 2017, Timothy Olson and Mercedes Pila won the circuit leaders jersey in Pemyagolsa Trails HG.

Miguel Caballero and Laia Cañes win the MiM, with a new female record

Miguel Caballero from La Sportiva and current champion of Spain of Trail, obtained the victory in a time of 5:22:08. Behind, his teammate, Cristóbal Adell, who returned after a participation that turned into victory. Today was second at 5:30:03.  Ivan Ortiz, with a third position in his second home (5:31:37), completed the podium.

The big news came in the female category. Laia Cañes came to the race to settle a pending account. After five second positions, she just wanted to win. And she got it. She arrived to Sant Joan de Penyagolosa and broke the race time record, which was held by Rosa Guillamón since 2006.

Laia, from Team SportHG – AML Sport, stopped the time in 6:09:49. With 6:28:16, Eva María Moreda won the second place. Third for Ainhoa ​​Ostolaza in a time of 6:37:05.
